Celebration
Today, we celebrate the lasting impact of the work of Martin Luther King Jr. in the Civil Rights Movement. In the face of over 20 arrests, 4 assaults, the bombing of his home, and countless other acts of racism and hatred, he courageously fought for equality and justice. We thank you for the many people who continue to fight for racial equality; who follow in his footsteps.
We thank you, oh Lord.
Lament
We lament the present racial tensions in the US that continue to cause people of color to suffer physically, psychologically, financially, and professionally. We acknowledge that there is still much work to be done in the hearts of people in this nation. We need your Spirit to guide us as we pray, speak, and act for justice and equality.
Have mercy, oh Lord.
